Day 22 – Yummy Comfort

When I was younger, my favorite meal was the lasagna my mom used to make. As I grew older my tastes changed a bit. When I was in college, I used to make entire meals of Sour Patch Kids and water! I didn’t drink coffee, and this gave me an energy boost,

Sometimes I sit and marvel that I am still alive (and have more than two teeth in my head). My eating habits when I was finally free to make my own decisions…were atrocious. And even though I paid for a meal plan (required) I never ate at the cafe! Although they had a full salad bar and vegetarian meals…although for the first year, I think that company was new to what vegetarian meant this was – there was no meat, but every dish had cheese! I like cheese as much as the next guy, but every meal? No thanks. My last two years in school, if it was not Saturday – I was not in the cafe.

One of my favorite things to do with my friends at the time was Friendly’s on Friday. The waitress knew our orders by heart. It was where we went to wind down from the week. (And have a meal that did not feature cheese!) When I started to pay a little more attention to my diet, I checked in on the nutrition of my favorite meal a chicken sandwich I think- yikes! As I said before, I marvel. God had to have had a plan for me 🙂

teatoastIn my old..er age,  as much as I like to be in the kitchen, and as much as I like trying new recipes, I have found that hot tea and warm crispy toast are my comfort. I also like crispy thin crust pizza with vegetables on top, a really plain creamy kheer (rice pudding with cardamom) and I love a mocha, but not more than tea with nice crispy toast (My aunt bakes the best whole wheat bread). I still don’t have the most stellar diet, but my – is it a comfort.

If tea is a hug in a cup, toast is a hug on a plate!

What’s your favorite comfort food?
