It’s December and the Bible Study Group that I frequent during the year Hellomornings.org is doing their advent study*, but in addition to that study, I think I’m going to expand a practice that I do for one week in December, whatever blog I am keeping, and that is recalling favorite Christmas Carols. I love Christmas Carols, but since I’m thinking of expanding it from one week to one month… I’m not sure as yet. I guess we will find out together!
This morning’s reading was taken from Luke 1: 26-38.
Today’s song : Mary Did you know? It is a more modern carol, but it is equally thought provoking and beautiful. Have you ever considered that Mary who at this point is widely believed to have been a teenager when the angel appeared to her did not complain, did not question deeply, but responded with “I am the Lord’s servant, may everything you have said come true.” In other words – whatever your will is for me Lord. Mary’s heart was willing, and perhaps that is why God chose her. Sometimes I don’t have such a willing spirit. Sometimes I want God to give me much more information before I proceed, almost as if He didn’t know what He was doing – almost as if He weren’t almighty God. Can you imagine all that we would have been forfeited – if Mary said…what is in this for me or how do I know this will be a good kid? Oh Lord, please give me the heart of a servant.
this seems to be one of the most popular versions of the song.
Mark Lowry who sings lead here also wrote the words to this song in 1984.
*By the time you click this, I don’t know if it will still be available or if it is only available to those who have signed up to be a part of hellomornings. If the study is no longer available through that site, but you are still interested in the advent study, you can click HERE.
